This weekend Terrell Allen of Tennessee State University etched his name into the history books of college football. On Saturday Allen won the Buck Buchanan Award which is given to the top defensive player in FCS annually. Allen became only the 5th HBCU player to win the award and the first player from Tennessee State to claim the award. Allen's career started at Austin Peay where he was a A HERO Sports Sophomore All-American and Second Team All-OVC selection in 2021 and his dominance continued when he decided to join Eddie George and the Tennessee State Tigers in 2022.
Once Terrell Allen arrived in Nashville he quickly continued to be one of the most dominant players in the country. In his first season with the Tigers he racked up 36 tackles on the year, 20 solo, 16 assists, 12.0 tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks. Terrell earned First Team All-Conference honors and received All-American Honorable Mention honors.
In 2023 Terrell Allen put together one of the most dominant seasons in FCS history. Allen racked up 65 tackles (44 solo, 21 assists) and led the FCS in both sacks (14.5) and tackles for loss (28) If that wasnt enough he forced five fumbles, recovered one and tallied 10 QB hurries. His 28 tackles for loss set a new TSU single-season record and he had a four-game span of recording 4 or more tackles for loss. Allen was named the 2023 Big South-OVC Defensive Player of The Year back in December and is sure to be a consensus 1st Team All-American.
